Greening DC Restaurants Project Overview

Greening DC Restaurants Project

The Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD) has partnered with GreenHOME to help launch the Greening DC Restaurants pilot project. The project offers free technical assistance to restaurants operating in District, with a focus on target neighborhood commercial districts for which the project was funded.  The project technical assistance and services include:

  • Initial assessment survey of business operations, needs and interests.  An online assessment survey is available for completion.
  • An in-depth workshop is scheduled for April 22, 2009 for business owners. To register, complete the online assessment survey. Download the workshop flyer*.
  • Onsite consultations with a green expert to create a customized action plan will be offered to a limited number of restaurant owners who participated in the survey and workshop.
  • Publications—How to Guide and Suppliers Lists—will be published in Summer 2009.

Through these technical assistance services, restaurant owners will learn how to reduce their operating expenses, increase customer sales, and positively impact the environment by making a minimal to moderate investment in changing their energy/water usage, product and equipment procurement, and front-of-house operations.

The companion publications will help DC restaurants implement both short- and long-term changes that can significantly impact their bottom line, reduce a business’ ecological footprint, and improve the dining and working environment for customers and workers.

To complete the assessment survey and register for the workshop online.
